Scored on our six criteria — how we test.

What we liked
  • Per-mushroom doses and 'fruiting body' stated on the label — the clearest disclosure in the category
  • Organic, third-party tested, and available as ground, pods and instant
  • Tastes like a proper medium-roast coffee; chaga is nearly undetectable
What held it back
  • $1.90 per serving for the instant packets is at the top of the range
  • 250 mg lion's mane is about 8% of the 3 g/day used in the Mori 2009 trial
  • Only two mushrooms — no cordyceps in the Think line
Who should skip it
  • You want the cheapest daily cup — RYZE costs about 35% less per serving
  • You're after a multi-mushroom blend for 'immune' coverage

The label is the product

Four Sigmatic is the only large brand whose label reads like a supplement facts panel: species, amount, part used. That alone earns it the transparency score. Whether 250 mg is "enough" is a different question — see the table above — but at least you know.

Taste

Real coffee. The chaga adds a faint vanilla-earth note; the lion's mane is invisible. Of the instant blends we tested, only RYZE tastes smoother, and RYZE gets there with added MCT and coconut.

Value

$18.99 for ten packets is the highest per-cup price among the big three. The 12 oz ground bag brings it down considerably if you don't need single-serve.

Verdict

The transparency pick. Pay the premium if you want to know exactly what you're drinking.

Frequently asked questions

How much lion's mane is in Four Sigmatic coffee?

The Think line states 250 mg of lion's mane fruiting-body extract per serving, plus 250 mg of chaga. That is more disclosure than most brands offer, though it is well below the 3,000 mg/day used in the main human cognition trial.

How much caffeine is in Four Sigmatic mushroom coffee?

About 50 mg per instant packet — roughly half a regular cup. The ground coffee is closer to a normal cup because it's real ground arabica with mushroom extract added.

Is Four Sigmatic worth the price?

If label transparency and fruiting-body sourcing matter to you, yes. If you just want a cheaper, smoother mushroom coffee for daily drinking, RYZE delivers most of the experience at 35% less per cup.

Does Four Sigmatic use fruiting body or mycelium?

Fruiting body, and it says so on the label. Four Sigmatic also describes its extraction method, which most competitors leave out.
